Discussion:
License of Extended StAX API jar

I found that stax-ex-1.7.6.jar that is part of 3.5.1 ServiceMix distribution
is under CDDL+GPL license. From other side the ServiceMix as whole is
under Apache 2 license. Question is: can I distribute ServiseMix 3.5.1 to my
customer as Apache 2 software, or I should consider it as GPL because of
stax-ex-1.7.6.jar license?

Thank you.

Hi,

thanks for the note: we should not embed any GPL license software, I
gonna check because it's a severe issue. If you plan to embed such
license, you can't use the Apache license.

Thank you for explanation.

Does it make sense to create ticket to keep track of it?

Regards,
Gene

it is dual licensed under CDDL + GPL, so taking it for CDDL and including
it in binary form in an apache software is okay according to this document

Yes, but it has to be mentioned in the NOTICE, which is not the case.

Thank you. The link is an instructive.

Sounds like Distribution of ServiceMix as Apache product with non modified
CDDL jar inside is Okay.

From user point of view I like that this document mentioned " label in
README". It would be useful to have it. Idea is: If you gave me Something
(ServiseMix) and allowed me do everything I want to do with the Something,
I would like to be aware that this Something contains parts that shouldn't
be touched (modified).
